Anderson Valley Health Center is Hiring a Dental Assistant at Rural Community Health Center - Temporary Position (1 yr Experience) Near Boonville, CA

Anderson Valley Health Center (AVHC) is located in beautiful Mendocino county known for its Wine, Waves and Wilderness, 2.5 hours north of San Francisco. Anderson Valley Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center and is the sole provider in the Anderson Valley area. We serve a unique population of general patients and migrant and seasonal farm workers. AVHC is currently seeking a Dental Assistant AND/OR Registered Dental Assistant to join our family and help us provide excellent care to the residents of Anderson Valley.

Anderson Valley Health Center’s mission is to provide affordable high quality care to all valley residents. The clinic opened its doors in 1976 as a “free clinic” and continues today as an independent rural Federally Qualified Health Center providing “womb to tomb” care. Anderson Valley patients comprise of approximately 40% Hispanic/Latino, 20% Senior citizens, 45% Medi-Cal and 20% Sliding Fee Scale patients. In our single site, we operate services including; Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health, in-school nursing and health-education, an on-site medication dispensary and group support and health coaching for chronic disease patients. We see approximately 2,800 patients a year in 13,000 visits.

Your role: As a Registered or Certified Dental Assistant, you should be reliable and be able to build trust with patients of all ages. You should have a knowledge of relevant health and safety rules. The duties of a dental assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the dental office. The RDA performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills and works cooperatively with other dental staff.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ability and experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse and underserved populations, work with migrant and seasonal farm workers as well as Spanish Speaking is a plus
  • Interest in team-based care and demonstrating leadership and initiative in clinical quality improvement practices
  • High degree of interpersonal competence with both staff and patients as we are a small team and community
  • Ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible before their examination
  • Sterilize dental instruments properly
  • Provide chair-side assistance to the dentist
  • Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
  • Give instructions to patients after operations or other dental procedures
  • Take X-rays
  • Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
  • Monitor supplies

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid RDA license(preferred)
  • Valid X-ray license(preferred)
  • 1 year experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA)
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • A patient and friendly demeanor
  • Attention to detail

Nice to have:

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records
