Description

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Anderson University seeks adjunct faculty members to teach Acting as well academic and technique courses in theatre and musical theatre.

Summary:
The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is seeking a dynamic, creative, and motivated theater practitioner, to fill an adjunct faculty position beginning in the Fall of 2024. This position will assist the Director of Musical Theatre and Theatre in continuing to develop our growing program; teach technique/specialized based courses (Acting, Scene Study, Voice and Movement for the Actor, Directing, Theatre History); direct one production a year based on teaching load.

The Musical Theatre and Theater department offers an undergraduate BM in Musical Theatre, BA in Musical Theatre, and a BA in Theatre, and a minor in Theatre. We are focused on delivering high quality, scaffolded instruction, centering around the student’s need, but also cultivating authentic and independent artists who are prepared for a career in the arts outside of a university setting. We believe in creating safe and brave spaces for our students to create, explore, and experiment in new and innovative ways.

Responsibilities:
-Teach beginning acting with the option of teaching advanced acting and/or specialty courses based on applicants expertise
-Design syllabi, activities and assessments, and other teaching materials related to courses being taught
-Hold regular office hours
-Create an inclusive learning environment that demonstrates a sensitivity toward and respect for diversity in the student population including, socioeconomic, cultural, religious, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities
-Communicate regularly with the Director of Theatre and Musical Theatre

Qualifications


Qualifications
-A Master’s degree in Theatre or a related discipline
-University-level teaching experience preferred
-Professional experience in the field of acting preferred
-Familiarity with effective teaching practices, adult motivation to learn, and diversity, equity, and inclusive teaching
-Evidence of exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills

An ideal candidate would have an expertise in one or more of the following:
Theatre History/History of Musical Theatre
Voice and Movement
Directing
Fundamentals of Acting
Scene Study
Musical Theatre Performance

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
-Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a collaborative environment
-Ability to use and manage Canvas (The university’s Learning Management System)
-Ability to work independently
-Knowledge of pedagogy and diverse learning styles
-Ability to adapt to diverse student’s learning needs
-Knowledge of student-centered pedagogical practices
-Assessment of student learning
-Implementation of effective classroom management strategies
-Engaged in professional development within the industry
-Knowledge of current industry standards and practices

Candidates should have belief in and commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith as interpreted through the historic witness of the Bible and the contemporary ministry of the Holy Spirit. They should possess a vitality of Christian experience that is maturing in insight and application.
