Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal ensures the integrity of educational systems and instructional programs across classroom and school environments. The Assistant Principal oversees classroom programming including lesson planning, instruction, student assessment, behavior plan implementation and functional skill system implementation. The Assistant Principal provides supervision to Classroom Teachers, Teachers Aides/Assistants and Special Area Teachers. In addition the Assistant Principal maintains open communication with all program departments. The Assistant Principal is responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy school environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Assistant Principal is an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team; modeling communication across disciplines and effective use of problem solving strategies.
• Provides educational administrative guidance and supervision to Classroom/Special Area Teachers and Teacher's Aide/Assistants.
• Oversees classroom staff rations, identifying and managing Teacher's Aides/Assistants interviews and recommendations for hire.
• Works with the Education Administration in creating, developing, maintaining, and assessing program initiatives.
• Oversees the school building to ensure a safe and healthy learning and working environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

• NYS Certification as SDA/SAS with sufficient knowledge and experience to satisfactorily perform the responsibilities of the position.
• BCBA Preferred.
• Must maintain qualifications in the crisis intervention procedure of the agency.
• Must be capable at all times of initiating or assisting in all components of the crisis intervention of the agency.
• Must be capable at all times of assisting occupants in the orderly evacuation of the facility, by both primary and secondary paths in the event of fire or other emergency.
