    Job Summary
    The Teacher Expert, Support Staff Professional Development Coordinator works with paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, principals, and district administrators to support professional learning in alignment with the Anchorage School District's vision, mission, and goals, effectively implementing strategies to achieve program objectives. This position reports to and is evaluated by the Teaching and Learning assistant director or designee. This position requires a valid Alaska teaching or administrative certificate and has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS).
    Job Requirements
    The following are required:
    • A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate or ability to acquire by start date.
    • Five (5) or more years of experience in K-12 education.
    The following are preferred:
    • Successful experience coordinating, developing, and leading professional development.
    • Experience with teacher induction and mentoring.
    • Experience in a large and culturally diverse school district.
    • Proficient in adult learning theory and strategies
    • Evidence of strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Proficiency in time planning and management.
    • Flexible with strong organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated technology skills that support professional learning (e.g., knowledge of Canvas or other learning management systems).
    Essential Job Functions
    • Consults with various district departments to support professional development implementation, including integration of adult learning strategies and organization of district in-services and professional development events for paraprofessionals and substitute teachers.
    • Coordinates and provides professional development of the Master Teacher assessments for paraprofessionals.
    • Develops and coordinates professional development for substitute teachers.
    • Keeps current on research and best practices around induction and professional learning by participating in educational learning opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
    • Collects, analyzes, and presents data to determine paraprofessionals and substitute teachers needs and future goals.
    • Establishes procedures for practical situations and makes decisions or develops recommendations for system improvements.
    • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of management, supervision, and other ASD personnel.
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
    Physical /Mental Demands
    The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

    Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
    While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
