PURPOSE  

Packages core materials and products manually by performing the following duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assembles and cleans packaging containers. 
2. Lines and pads crates and assembles cartons. 
3. Obtains and sorts product. 
4. Wraps protective material around product. 
5. Starts, stops, and regulates speed of the line. 
6. Starts, stops cutter, and adjust length of product. 
7. Makes flying splices on rolls of paper as needed. 
8. Inserts or pours product into containers or fills containers from spout or chute. 
9. Weighs product and adjusts quantity. 
10. Nails, glues, or closes and seals containers. 
11. Labels containers, container tags, or products. 
12. Sorts bundles or filled containers. 
13. Packs special arrangements or selections of product. 
14. Inspects materials, products, and containers at each step of packaging process. 
15. Records information such as weight, time, and date packaged, length of product, and I.D., O.D. of product. 
16. Keeps the machine and area clean and free of debris and spills.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

Must have a High School or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and training with Work keys Career Readiness Certification; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

LANGUAGE ABILITY 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and work instructions. 

MATH ABILITY 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

COMPUTER SKILLS 

Minimal computer skills required. Need ability to access documents located on an in-house computer system.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
