Description

Purpose:

A cooks Assistant is responsible for assisting in the daily preparation of menued food items, oversight of the salad bar, kitchen cleanliness, plating food as ordered by the waitstaff, and other duties as directed.

• Assists in preparing menued food items as needed in a sanitary and timely manner.
• Must be able to understand and follow basic cooking instructions, recipes, portion controls, techniques, and presentation standards as established by the Food Service Director.
• Oversees and assists with the daily preparation of the salad bar and menued salad items.
• Must be able to accept direction and constructive criticism.
• Must be able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
• Must have some knowledge and understanding of safety, sanitation, and safe food handling procedures.
• Maintains a clean, sanitary and organized kitchen and storage areas through the use of daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
• Assist as needed in the dining room during lunch service.
• Interacts cooperatively and positively with residents, families, visitors, and other staff.
• Maintains the confidentiality and rights of residents, family, employee, and facility information.
• Must be able to work closely with others in a team environment.
• Must have a commitment to high quality products and service.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to cold temperatures and able to work for long periods of time in an extremely warm environment.
• Must be able to transport 50 pounds on occasion, and up to 35 pounds regularly.
• Will be required to attend training sessions, staff meetings, and other work related functions as needed.
• May be required to work weekends and holidays as needed for coverage.
• Will perform additional tasks, although not detailed, as requested by the Food Service Director, Assistant Food Service Director, or the Community Director at any time.
