AmSea is Hiring a Surimi Technician Near Seattle, WA

Position Summary

The Surimi Technician is responsible for operating and effecting routine maintenance on all machinery and equipment used for mixing cryoprotectants with processed fish meat aboard his/her assigned vessel. This individual is expected to thoroughly understand all aspects of this machinery and its maintenance, and have a good working knowledge of how surimi quality is affected during this portion of the surimi production process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The day-to-day operation of the blending equipment during a shift, including operation, routine maintenance, and repair of such equipment, and a limited amount of supervision of surimi packing processors in cooperation with other Factory management staff
  • Maintain proper inventory of spare parts for this equipment
  • Work closely with the Factory Manager, Quality Control staff, and other vessel staff to ensure optimum performance of the factory, consistent with instructions received from the Factory Manager
  • Attend daily surimi staff meetings on board the vessel, and be on duty during shifts as specified by the Factory Manager
  • Actively participate in all new surimi processing developments and projects on board his/her vessel, and attend off-season surimi staff meetings.

Skill and Experience Required

  • A minimum of two years’ experience at sea
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Experience in a position of authority is recommended, as well as some exposure to working with people from various backgrounds

 

Physical Ability

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug tests
  • Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gangplank or using a Jacob’s ladder
  • Must climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs, or vertical ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions as extreme as 30 degrees below zero
  • Ability to lift heavy items repeatedly

 

Work Schedule

12 hours or more per day for the duration of the trip, including loading and unloading

Ability to work at sea for extended periods of time

Able to work during the shipyard maintenance period as needed

Compensation is crew share based, estimate is $9,00 - 12,000 per month
