GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONDesign Engineers work closely with the sales team, and directly with customers, in a consultative role throughout the sales process to develop creative solutions to meet customer needs. A Design Engineer is responsible for designing and engineering custom system solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide timely responses to RFP, bid specifications, and design build opportunities via statements of work and associated pricing in collaboration with the sales team.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATIONAssociates or Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, MIS or similar field or equivalent experience.
REQUIRED EXPERTISE & EXPERIENCE:
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT Responsible for company equipment, which includes but is not limited to iPad and cell phone and customer property. Employee is required to track usage of equipment and will participate in regular inventory checks.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as project drawings, policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write detailed reports; Ability to write clear and concise correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Must have proficiency in Geometry and Algebra. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to utilize industry specific knowledge in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions; Ability to deal with problems involving several known and/or unknown variables in situations of a complex nature.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under supervision of the Engineering Manager, where standard practice enables the employee to direct technicians on the successful and safe completion of work. Must be able to work independently.
PLANNING
Responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of team work operations.
DECISION MAKING
Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making and which would not only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved, but would also affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele.
MENTAL DEMAND
Significant mental demand. Operations requiring directed thinking to carry out predetermined procedure or sequence of operations of variability. Operations requiring intermittent attention to control machine or manual motions. Must have the ability to multi-task.
ANALYTICAL ABILITY / PROBLEM SOLVING
Moderately repetitive. Activities with slight variation using a definite set of processes or directions with some degree of supervision. Choice of learned things in situations which conform to clearly established patterns and modes.
USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS
ACCURACY Probable errors of internal scope should ordinarily be detected but may affect the work of others within the unit, requiring additional expenditure of time to trace errors and make all necessary corrections. Errors would require a moderate amount of time to correct.
PUBLIC CONTACT
Contacts of considerable importance with other contractors, end user customers, or other outside representatives, wherein the manner of handling these contacts has a significant bearing on the organization's position and operation. Requires tact in discussing problems and presenting data and making recommendations.
EMPLOYEE CONTACT Frequent contacts with the manager and Central Support Office, such as those required in coordination of effort, generally in normal course of performing duties.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Advanced computer skills required. Position works with multiple software systems daily.

TRAVEL
The ability to travel is required. Assigned projects may be out of state, potentially requiring site visits.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Normal work schedule is five days a week, eight hours a day. Position often works additional hours based on customer demands.
