As a Scholar Coach, you’ll serve at a local school and be embedded in a K-3 classroom. You’ll partner with the classroom teacher to promote scholastic engagement and help students become better readers. Every day, you’ll also meet with students one-on-one or in pairs to provide extra practice and build skills. With training and on-site coaching, you'll be prepared to help kids succeed. Your commitment during school hours throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact.

It Starts with a Passion
Reading Corps takes everyday people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to make a difference – and meet the following minimum qualifications.
By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs, for more information click here.
While you’re making a difference, you’ll receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks and additional perks! As an AmeriCorps program we have both federally provided benefits and program specific benefits.

Reading Corps is powered by AmeriCorps members who serve as tutors. Since the program launched in 2003, Reading Corps has helped more than 300,000 children improve their skills and become stronger readers. Rigorous third-party evaluation has consistently shown that students who have Reading Corps make greater gains. What’s more — kids with traditional risk factors make even more progress than their peers. Building on success in Minnesota, Reading Corps is replicated nationally in 12 states, the District of Columbia, and is still growing!
Reading Corps is an Ampact educational program that is administered through a formal partnership with ServeMinnesota and fueled by research from the National Science Service Collaborative. As a national organization, Ampact demonstrates the power of national service to solve complex social problems by creating innovative programs that focus on the key areas of education, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures for communities. These programs include Reading Corps, Math Corps, Early Learning Corps, Climate Impact Corps, Heading Home Corps, Language Corps, Public Health Corps, Recovery Corps and Resettlement Corps.
