Amoorer, Incorporated is Hiring a Night Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (FT) Near Bethesda, MD

Currently recruiting a Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery (L&D) in Bethesda, Maryland, to work in the Labor & Delivery Unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to provide care to Active Duty heroes, their family members, and retirees.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE RN - L&D:
  • Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources including time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain excellent patient assessment skills. Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice. The contracted RN will demonstrate proper preparation of patient’s for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions. Evaluate effectiveness of
  • self, care given by all health team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes.

  • Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers and other clinic specific equipment.
  • Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established Labor and Delivery protocols as prescribed in MTF policies and procedures and IAW JC guidelines.
  • Contractor RNs shall provide proper care and evaluation of post-procedural patients.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Will be knowledgeable in administrative requirements for the documentation of patient's condition, progress and acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
  • Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacts quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Must have the ability to obtain, assess, and report critical lab or diagnostic results to patient’s physician in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.
  • Can demonstrate and adhere to peri-operative, infection control and safety policies and procedures used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines.
  • Schedules referral appointments, arranges for procedures, and performs telephone followup, as appropriate.
  • Provide care to normal and high risk antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum patients (the MTF has approximately 80% high risk population, e.g. PIH, diabetes, pre-term labor, multiple gestations). Recognize changes in maternal, fetal or newborn infant condition that would constitute an emergency situation and responds appropriately.
  • Use and interpret information from fetal monitoring equipment to include doptone, fetoscope, internal and external uterine and fetal monitoring. Initiate appropriate response to fetal monitoring information and document action in a timely fashion in accordance with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN) standards.
  • Operate and monitor the performance of essential equipment used in the care of stable newborns, e.g. radiant warmer, blood glucose monitor, pulse oximeter, medications via syringe pumps, etc. Interpret and respond to data generated by such equipment.
  • Utilize knowledge of normal and high risk maternal, fetal and infant nursing care requirements after delivery to provide anticipatory guidance and education to parents.
  • Possess knowledge of normal and abnormal newborn physical and neurological development and application of same in delivery of nursing care to infants from birth until seven days of age.
  • Assess patient readiness for rooming-in, transfer to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or discharge.
  • Possess knowledge of normal and abnormal female anatomy and physiology, common gynecological surgery and application of same in delivery of nursing care to obstetrical patients.
  • Safely administer prescribed medications including IV push drugs and IV drips specific to pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum and neonatal care as described. Monitor and document patient response.
  • Administer oxygen therapy, monitor oxygen equipment, and interpret and respond to data. Monitor patient and interpret and respond to data.
  • Assist in the performance and interpretation of the Non-Stress Test and Contraction Stress Test. Administer and monitor Pitocin infusions to induce or augment labor. Care for patients undergoing amniocentesis.
  • Assist in both vaginal and scheduled or emergent Cesarean Section deliveries, and other operative procedures permitted by MTF policy. Perform scrub and circulating duties in the Mother & Infant Care Center.
  • Recover both stable and unstable infants and patient of childbearing ages from general and regional anesthesia.
  • Identify potential post-anesthetic patient problems; specifically, airway management, hemodynamic instability and pain control, and intervene appropriately.
  • Provide Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as indicated.
  • Operate cardiac monitors, interpret cardiac rhythms, determine implications, and make indicated interventions.
  • Monitor and transition mothers/newborns during the immediate post-delivery (ii) Knowledge of and/or experience working with intrathecal, epidural, and general anesthesia.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE RN-L&D:
  • Degree/Education (5.2.4): A graduate of an Associate, Bachelor or Master’s program of Registered Nursing. The institution will be from a National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • S.T.A.B.L.E, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or higher (Advanced Fetal Monitoring).
  • Valid, unrestricted, RN license at least 1 state, territory or commonwealth of the US.
  • Experience as a Registered Nurse for 3 years with at least two years as an RN in a highrisk Obstetrical Unit. Experience in the full spectrum of care to include L&D, antepartum, triage, circulating during C-sections.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.

  • Competitive pay ($59.00/hr. $4.23/hr. benefits pay)
