About the Position:

The Occupational Therapist supports the Employment Services Department by collaborating with other social service professionals and paraprofessional staff to ensure the delivery of programmatic services to Amity’s students. The Occupational Therapist (OT) may serve as Program Manager, Mental Health Counselor, and/or Career Mobility coach "Careers for a Cause" for Amity’s vocational training program for at-risk populations and those with lived experience with homelessness, justice involvement, domestic violence, mental health, and/or substance use.

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitates development and rehabilitation of clients with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering occupational therapy.
  • Meets the student’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results and determining occupational therapy treatment plans.
  • Partners with Job Developers to develop relationships with employers and assists transitioning students with job-seeking skills.
  • Helps clients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.
  • Implements a practice in functional, pre-vocational, vocational, and homemaking skills and fosters activities of daily living.
  • Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to an individual’s physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
  • Prepares students for return to employment by consulting with employers; determining potential employee difficulties; retraining employees; and helping employers understand necessary physical and job accommodations.
  • Evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating students’ progress and recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Tracks and analyzes program budget, deliverables, and outcomes and reports data to internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Leads and manages team in order to meet student needs, provide training, monitor progress towards goals, and assess performance.

What You Will Bring

  • One year of paraprofessional experience.
  •  Graduated from an accredited program for occupational therapy.
  • A National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy coder.
  • Current and valid occupational therapy license from the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT)
  • Current and valid occupational therapy certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License & automobile liability insurance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and widely supported internet browsers.
  • The ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including students, community, and other staff.
  • Experience providing services to low-income individuals in a community setting with criminal justice, homeless or at-risk populations.
  • Knowledge of homeless services and resources is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
