Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools is Hiring an ARHS Paraeducator/Educational Coach (Anticipated Vacancy) Near Amherst, MA

The Amherst Regional School District is seeking candidates for a part time position to serve as an education coach.

Educational coaches provide part-time (up to 15 hours/week) services necessary to assist eligible transition age (18-22) students in our community-based Connections program to actively participate in educational, vocational, and life skills activities on a college campus and/or integrated community setting.

Educational coaches assist students with intellectual and other disabilities access modified college coursework, evaluate performance capabilities of students, and facilitate social opportunities in college and community-based settings..

Statement of Duties:

  • Support individual students with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder, age 18-21, in inclusive postsecondary educational settings, which includes attending MAICEI UMass courses
  • Be available to attend new student campus tours, orientation, person-centered planning, intake meetings, and professional development training as necessary.
  • Coach students in the typical role of a college student, including appropriate class behavior, study skills, test-taking skills, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Provide homework support when needed.
  • Help students plan and practice personal safety techniques, self-advocacy, assertiveness skills, and social skills. This will allow students to be as independent as possible in the college environment.
  • Assist students in travel training when needed.
  • Complete all logs and paperwork if/as assigned by the MAICEI Coordinator and/or ARHS high school liaison.
  • Work with Learning Accommodations Center and Assistive Technology Specialist to develop learning strategies to assist students.
  • Review and encourage the use of educational accommodations as outlined in the Accommodation Plan.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Special Ed Liaison regarding successes and problems/concerns as they arise.
