In this vital role you will oversee the operations and governance of third-Party Logistic Service Providers (LSP) that support and advance distribution operations at Amgen. You will also be accountable for all aspects of Trade Distribution and Logistics in support of key commercial objectives including third-party logistics (3PL) oversight, DSCSA & serialization, business continuity planning, reverse logistics compliance (including recall & reconciliation), and US state licensing.

This Manager ensures regulatory compliance for area of responsibility, and that all work is completed per cGMP, OSHA and all Amgen policies and regulations. Integral to this role will be the responsibility of reinforcing processes and relationships with Logistic Service Providers, Transportation Service Providers Amgen sites.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating resolution of quality issues within the 3PL warehouses (e.g. damage, packaging list errors, temperature excursions).
  • Investigate and resolve all shipment exceptions, including incomplete shipments and quantity discrepancies.
  • Identify 3PL and Specialty Pharmacy requirements needed to support best go to market strategy.
  • Lead/participate cross-functional work streams as required with 3PL, accounting, corporate systems, marketing, master data, pricing and contracting, quality, sales, sales operations, supply chain, technical operations, and trade relations.
  • Lead and monitor integration of SAP and 3PL systems; prepare and present 3PL monthly dashboards, scorecards, KPIs and metrics sufficient to measure performance.
  • Run and support of state licensing requirements, as necessary.
  • Ongoing project management focused on continuous process improvement.
  • Ownership of serialization activities to ensure DSCSA compliance.
  • Ensure timely and accurate inclusion of product information in drug compendia and downstream information systems including key EHR platforms.
  • Provide and communicate inventory status updates and support advanced transactions requiring research and intra-department coordination and/or approvals.
  • Provide overall support to Trade Relations Department (e.g. trouble-shooting, work priorities and assists with formulating corrective actions), to ensure the timely effective completion of tasks and alignment to company goals and objectives.
  • Support field activities by ensuring optimal product distribution and contractual performance of the 3PL (e.g. in the market disruption communication and support).

Primary objectives:

  • Ensure current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Safety compliance.
  • Utilizes project management skills to support Logistic Service Provider (LSP) integration and continuous operations.
  • Understand and implement Operations Excellence activities to improve business processes.
  • Collaborate with the LSP to ensure adherence to service levels, identifying performance improvement opportunities in alignment with the Operations READ framework (reliability, efficiency, agility, differentiation).
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews with the LSP/3PL.
  • Lead/participate in business decisions impacting US commercial and distribution operations.
  • Ensure compliance with required training for staff supporting Amgen business.
  • Leads overview of LSP/3PL business with input from US Market and/or Louisville Distribution Center team.
  • Prepare for and support regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Lead the development and revision of SOPs.
  • Interact with the FDA and other governmental inspection agencies.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and training to staff and partner groups.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of supply chain experience OR
  • Associate’s degree and 8 years of supply chain experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of supply chain experience OR
  • Master’s degree and 2 years of supply chain experience OR
  • Doctorate degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and/or operating 3rd party logistics service providers.
  • Ability to liaise/communicate optimally and easily with cross-functional teams and different cultures (excellent written and verbal communication skills).
  • Experience with ERP/WMS (preferably SAP).
  • Manage quality records related to LSP Operations (i.e., inventory, compliance, distribution, QMS).
  • Understanding of industry requirements (GMP, GDP).
  • Demonstrated success in Operational Excellence and major organizational change initiatives.
  • Understand and incorporate risk management strategy into overall supply chain strategy for delivery of product.
  • Self-leadership and motivation.
  • Strategic mindset.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
