1. Supervises and directs patient care in an individual operating room.
2. Assesses patient needs, develops individual plans of care, and identifies outcomes.
3. Ensures that appropriate techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice.
4. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of special needs for various age groups including infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients when providing care in the surgical suite.
5. Assists surgeon(s), anesthesia personnel, and other O.R. staff as needed to ensure good patient care.
6. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of infection control practices.
7. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of sterile technique.
8. Manage the care of patients receiving sedation or analgesic medications while undergoing invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Medication administration, patient monitoring, discharge instructions, family teaching, and patient safety concerns are all nursing care critical elements of patients undergoing moderate sedation.
9. Takes the initiative to participate in continuing education and/or in-services to build and expand the scope of practice.
