Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: 2-3 years detailed work environment with proven organizational skills, high level of computer knowledge. Experience in phlebotomy needed as well as demonstrated keyboarding skill and computer knowledge.

Essential Duties:

• Correctly processes patient orders for testing
  • Monitors provider's orders for complete and accurate information
  • Ensures correct testing is ordered and collected on the appropriate date
  • Ensure patient is processed correctly in Epic
  • Maintains an accurate record of orders and ensure orders are stored appropriately and secured according to organizational policies.
  • Correctly interprets patient and order information to ensure proper entry and avoidance of error
  • Correctly collects ABNs according to the Laboratory’s procedure
  • Correctly enters sample information in the Laboratory Information System to ensure testing is performed correctly, and results route correctly.
  • Collects samples following the laboratory’s procedures.
  • Labels, transports, and stores specimens according to laboratory procedures
  • Competently performs phlebotomy on all age groups
• Demonstrates an understanding of pre-analytical factors affecting testing and exhibit the capacity to intervene when pre-analytical factors may interfere with test conditions and either correct the problem or notify the appropriate technical staff or supervisor.
• Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
• Questions technical staff or provider as appropriate to ensure orders are accurate and complete.
• Exercises good judgment in addressing daily situations and seeks assistance for problems which cannot be solved independently.
• Maintains positive control of patient data in accordance with good laboratory practice and HIPAA
• Performs responsibilities assigned to ensure a functional outreach system according to policy
• Performs directly supervised, limited testing in accordance with laboratory policy and on the authorization of the director
• Reports only tests which have been authorized by the director for which training has been established and documented.
• Demonstrates competency through yearly competency evaluations across the required six dimensions of competency assessment for all assays performed.
• Properly handles, analyzes, and documents results of proficiency samples to ensure proficiency testing samples are treated in the same manner as patient samples.
• Follows the laboratory policies and documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviates from the laboratory’s established performance specifications and immediately notified technical staff of the deviation.
• Customer service
  • Receives patients in a warm, inviting manner
  • Acts as a liaison between the laboratory, organization departments, and external customers.
  • Answers and redirect calls appropriately.
• Resolves problems as directed and reports the resolution to the laboratory administration
• Monitors laboratory systems as assigned
• Maintains supplies including validating outdates, restocking trays and service areas, and storing supplies.
