Role Facts:

  • Network Design and Implementation: Design, plan, and implement computer networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks.
  • Network Configuration and Maintenance: Configure and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Network Security: Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyber threats adhering to NIST Security Frameworks. This includes setting up firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity problems, performance issues, and security breaches. This may involve analyzing network traffic, logs, and system alerts.
  • Network Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor network performance and usage, identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement, and implement optimizations to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures. Generate reports on network performance, security incidents, and compliance status.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other IT teams, such as systems administrators, developers, and security analysts, to ensure seamless integration of network services with other IT systems and applications.
  • Vendor Management: Evaluate and select network hardware and software vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships to ensure quality products and services.
  • Capacity Planning: Assess current and future network capacity requirements based on business needs and growth projections. Plan and implement upgrades and expansions as needed to accommodate increasing demands.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Stay updated on emerging networking technologies, trends, and best practices. Provide training and mentorship to junior network engineers and other IT staff.

What Really Excites Us:

  • Education: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications: Industry-standard certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Network , or equivalent certifications from other vendors.
  • Experience: 4 years of experience in network engineering roles, with proficiency in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting. Experience with specific networking technologies and protocols may be required (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF).
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing protocols. Proficiency with network hardware and software, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and network management tools.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness and attention to detail in network configuration, documentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing technologies and evolving business requirements, with a willingness to learn new skills and technologies as needed.
  • Project Management Skills: Experience managing network projects, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Security Awareness: Understanding of network security principles adhering to NIST Security Frameworks and best practices, with the ability to implement and maintain security measures to protect network assets and data.
