AmeriCorps is Hiring a The Alliance Matching Grants Resource Development VISTA Near Houston, TX
About 1 in 5 Houston adults is considered illiterate, experiencing difficulty in completing tasks such as filling out job applications. The goal of the Houston Adult Literacy Project is to build the capacity of adult education and literacy organizations in Houston, which support low-income, low literacy adult learners to help them to obtain and grow the skills they need to become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life. Help generate resources to aid in the fight against adult illiteracy by serving with The Alliance Development Office as a Resource Development VISTA. The Alliance is a leading nonprofit comprised of an amazing team that hails from 26 countries and speaks over 20 languages. The Alliance welcomes and empowers refugees, immigrants, and underserved residents who face financial, educational, health, language, or cultural barriers to realizing their dreams. The Alliance’s Development Office encompasses a variety of programs that provides a range of domestic services for newly-arrived refugees to help them to adjust to their new lives in Houston. ** This position is included with a rental assistance program that is offered by The Alliance for VISTA Members. **
Member Duties : The Resource Development VISTA will create documents and implement plans for The Alliance’s Development Office to improve their impact on the low-literacy low-poverty adult community. VISTA will put proposals for The Alliance, edit and assist reports, and be involved in Data Management. The VISTA will mobilize local resources to increase the capacity of adult literacy programs to build lasting solutions to poverty.
