The goal of this VISTA project is to investigate, develop, and evaluate improvement and sustainability plans for two organization, Pediatric Neurology and Children’s HealthWatch, which operate within BMC’s Department of Pediatrics. This VISTA’s will foster collaboration between similar BMC programs who were functionally and historically siloed. Children’s HealthWatch (CHW) is an ongoing multisite effort to produce non- partisan, original, and timely policy-relevant research on the health impact of food insecurity and associated hardships on impoverished families and their infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (Patients in early childhood). This research influences system leaders and the policies / interventions decision-makers can make to efectively prevent and mitigate the health and economic impact of these circumstances, as well as drive systemic change to address their disproportionate impact on communities of color. Pediatric Neurology aims to elevate the quality of lives of children and youth with epilepsy. The team has developed and implemented novel tools and programs such as a shared-decision aid to improve recognition and management of mental health symptoms, the Boston Seizure Screening program to reduce gaps in seizure diagnosis and care, a Transition Needs Survey to support youth and families, and many other initiatives focused on addressing unmet health-related social needs, building community for youth and stamping out the stigma of epilepsy.
