The Community Outreach & Volunteer VISTA will serve with Housing Forward in Maywood, IL from August 2024-2025. Housing Forward is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Housing Forward is a leading organization assisting individuals and families in west suburban Cook County who are experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Our mission is to transition people from housing crisis to housing stability. Volunteerism is foundational to our work, and the Community Outreach & Volunteer VISTA will be an integral part of the Housing Forward team. The VISTA will build relationships with and educate community partners on how to get involved in a community system to help neighbors experiencing housing crisis. They will also support volunteer recruitment, data collection, and reporting. Our ideal candidate is outgoing, enjoys interacting with people, and builds relationships easily. They should have strong communication, organization, and computer skills. The candidate should enjoy collaborating with a dedicated team, but also able to work independently and without daily supervision. This position offers a $400 monthly stipend.
