Job Description

As a Journeyman Marine Propulsion Engineer​ you will:

  • Work within the Maritime Lifecycle Readiness Division to provide engineering support to the United States Coast Guard - Surface Forces Logistics Center, Engineering Services Division.

A week in the life of a Journeyman Marine Propulsion Engineer​:

  • Assist in design, development, and evaluation of the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, such as propulsion systems & power generation systems.
  • Support the US Coast Guard reviewing third party design modifications and improvements to mechanical systems and components.
  • Perform design reviews, evaluating constructability, helping resolve technical issues, and managing information generated through the design and construction phases.
  • Conduct analyses of propulsion systems and types, lead development of technical data packages and reviews. 
  • Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.
  • Conduct marine engineering analysis.
  • Create graphical representations of structures and systems.
  • Inspect equipment or systems.
  • Assist in research of advanced engineering designs or applications.
  • Prepare technical reports for internal use.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or High School diploma and 11 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance

At least 5 years of experience:

  • Progressively responsible experience in marine specific fields (i.e. propulsion systems, power-generation systems, fluids and hydraulics)
  • Experience with Auto-CAD
  • Familiarity with ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
