JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Job Functions

  1. Maximize effective unit hours with timely log-ons, minimize chute times by moving with purpose, minimize scene times as per CCEMSA policy, and minimize drop times with best efforts.
  2. Treat all Patients, Patient’s Families and Friends, Co-responders, health care agency personnel, and all members of the public with respect and compassion.
  3. Adhere to all American Ambulance and CCEMSA protocols, policies and procedures.
  4. Continually improve your skills and knowledge base of pre-hospital medicine.
  5. Care for equipment, vehicles and facilities as if they are your own.
  6. Document records completely, accurately, and confidentiality.
  7. Provide a safe work environment for your customers, co-workers and yourself.

Field Training Officer

  1. Perform as exemplary employee at all times.
  2. Orient new field employees to all clinical and operational policies and procedures.
  3. Train new hire EMTs.
  4. Complete all appropriate orientation paperwork.
  5. Assist Quality Improvement Manager with training functions.
  6. Attend Field Training Officer training as required.

STAR Team Member

  1. Perform as exemplary employee at all times.
  2. Respond to and affect medical related SAR within team safety parameters.
  3. Maintain professionalism at all times.
  4. Maintain professional working relationships with all agencies.
  5. Perform STAR Team log on process at beginning of each shift.
  6. Maintain minimum fitness requirements including biannual physical agility testing.
  7. Maintain competency and required certifications in Technical, SRT, and Tactical rescue.
  8. Carry personal rescue equipment at all times while on duty.
  9. Assist with orientation and training of team members.
  10. Complete rescue documentation by end of shift.

AUTHORITY

  1. May not release employee-related information.

  4. May not use Company letterhead.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Current Fresno County EMT
  2. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification - Provider
  3. Maintain Minimum Rate of Insurability for vehicle operation.
  4. Maintain Operations Fit for Duty Standards
  5. Current Medical Examiner’s Card
  6. Current California Driver License
  7. Current California Ambulance Driver Certificate
  8. Maintains Current Tuberculosis test results
  9. Swiftwater Rescue Technician I and II (STAR Team only)

Physical Demands – Operations

  1. Lift 250 lb. patient with partner.
  2. Walk up 8 flights of stairs while carrying Treatment box and airway bag. 
  3. Complete two minutes of continuous compressions with less than three errors.
  4. Carry 200 lb. patient with partner down one flight of stairs.
  5. Complete test within four minutes.

Physical Demands – STAR Team

  • All Operations Physical Demands
    • Complete the following within the allotted time frames:
  1. Walk a designated course with weight and complete 2 tasks; 20 minute time allotment while wearing a helmet, gloves, 35 lbs. rescue organizer and a bag weighing 25 lbs.
    1. Walk 575 yards on the designated course
    2. Bag may be switched to either hand. The bag must be carried in one hand and may not be cradled, rested on shoulder or carried with both hands. Rest stops are allowed; time will continue during any stops.
    3. 1st task—remove rescue organizer and set down the bag. The 1st task is a horizontal rope pull.
      1. Pull rope through a pulley system with no mechanical advantage using a hand over hand motion to lift a weighted rope bag vertically 60’.
      2. Pull until the bag gets to the 1st pulley and stops.
      3. Lower the weighted bag in a controlled manner using the same hand over hand technique until the bag securely rests on ground.
      4. The rope may not be wrapped around the wrists or forearms.
    4. 2nd Task—Pull/drag a weighted (165 lbs.) Stokes litter 40’. Rest stops are allowed; time will continue during any stops.

Applicant will put on the rescue organizer and pick up a bag weighing 25 lbs.

  1. Walk 575 yards on the designated course (returning to start point)
  2. Bag may be switched to either hand. The bag must be carried in one hand and may not be cradled, rested on shoulder or carried with both hands. Rest stops are allowed; time will continue during any stops.

Dress/Rest; Put on a Scubapro wet suit 10 minute time allotment.

  1. Once dressed and 10 minutes is up part 3 will begin.

Freestyle swim and mannequin tow; 6 minute time allotment

  1. Walk 200ft to the river’s edge and make entry.
  2. Swim 100’ to a mannequin secured on the opposite bank using freestyle or backstroke swimming style.
  3. Tow the mannequin in hand back to where applicant first made entry into the water.
  4. Place mannequin on the shore, completely out of the water.
  5. Walk 200ft back to starting position of Part 3.
