Position Summary
The Finance Director is a full time, year-round position responsible for overseeing the American Youth Foundation’s financial operations and financial planning, ensuring the organization’s financial health and compliance with regulations. The Director will work closely with the President and AYF Leadership Team to develop and implement strategies for the financial well-being of the organization.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the financial strategy of the organization, including budgets, forecasting, financial planning, and the annual audit process.
- Oversee all accounting functions including ledgers, assets, payroll, releases of donor funds and expenditures. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising leadership on needed actions.
- Collaborate with the development team to assist in the creation of budgets and financial plans for grant proposals and use of endowment funds.
- Provide financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets, and business drivers of the organization.
- Lead the annual budget process by setting deadlines and sharing guidelines that each budget manager uses to guide the process of creating and revising the organization’s budget.
- Manage the finance team, providing leadership, direction, and training to ensure an effective and efficient finance operation.
- Communicate financial metrics and reports to the board of directors, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Implement, update, and maintain efficient and effective financial systems and processes.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA of Master’s degree preferred.
- Several years of financial management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, grant management, and financial regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Proficiency in Financial Edge, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and other relevant software.
- Ability to work long hours and to lift 25 pounds.
