HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450 employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 1st Shift Heavy Equipment Operator role in our Pella, IA facility.

JOB SUMMARY

Works in a safe, efficient manner to maximize production and maintain cleanliness in the grinder area

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:

I. **SAFETY

  • Attends monthly safety meetings
  • Wears required PPE
  • Attends trainings as needed and completes required testing with sufficient results
  • Complies with OSHA rules and regulations
  • Fully participates in end-of-shift blowdowns and other cleaning as necessary

II. **PRODUCTION

Skid steer

  • Operates in a safe and efficient manner while moving blocks from trailers or building to grinder
  • Completes daily checklist and blowdowns
  • Identifies when skid steer is not functioning correctly and reports to supervisor immediately

Industrial equipment

  • Properly performs startup and shutdown procedure for all pieces of equipment
  • Identifies when equipment is not functioning correctly and reports to supervisor immediately
  • Possess ability to become trained on scissor lift

Packaging equipment

  • Will be required to learn in-plant packaging equipment

III. **QUALITY:

  • Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed
  • Includes inspecting incoming loads for non-acceptable material and segregating as needed
  • Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed

IV. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee can be expected to be exposed to extremes in temperatures as well as work environment
  • Expected to lift, push, pull, and carry weights up to 50 lbs. Position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • In a typical 8-hour shift, the employee can either be sitting in the skid steer for the entire shift or standing and walking while cleaning for the entire shift, and anything in between depending on workload.
  • The employee must have the ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolds.

Secondary duties: Support the Shift Supervisor with other initiatives as assigned.

V. **QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma
  • 1 year of industrial manufacturing experience
  • 2 years experience operating skid steers and scissor lifts and basic understanding of troubleshooting that equipment
  • Exceptional organizational skills

EXPERIENCE

Manufacturing: 1 Year (Preferred)

Heavy equipment: 2 Years

COMPENSATION

Starting: $18.35 per hour
