American Water Contract Services Group proudly partners with the City of Camden to provide water and wastewater services to the community. The City of Camden Division of Utilities’ water supply, serviced by American Water Contract Services Group and The Military Services Group, comes from groundwater that is treated at two facilities prior to delivery to the distribution system. The two water treatment plants provide safe, clean, and reliable water to approximately 46,000 residents in the Camden community. We are looking for Operator to join our team. Primary Role

Independently operates repairs and inspects water and/or wastewater facilities and appurtenances following company, local, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures to ensure regulatory and environmental compliance. After-hours on-call duty may be required.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of the facilities and perform operations and maintenance as directed by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), O & M Manuals, and general instructions from supervision, necessary to maintain compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain a variety of records related to water diversion, treatment process control, equipment inspections, maintenance activity, etc., necessary for regulatory compliance.
  • Collect samples and identify concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of water and wastewater as required in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements; gather and test water samples for plant efficiency.
  • Performs maintenance of the water/wastewater system and general housekeeping duties; calibrate, modify, or repair instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flow meter, and other water quality monitoring equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows Company Environmental, Health and Safety Policies, and reports unsafe conditions to supervision immediately.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Able to read gauges and meters.
  • Able to perform standardized water process control, monitoring, and compliance sampling and testing.
  • Able to prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders, surveys and routine reports as directed.
  • Able to communicate effectively will all levels of the organization.
  • Some computer skills; MS Word, MS Excel and SCADA systems.
  • Able to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to this position.
  • Able to plan, schedule, prioritize, and coordinate work within assigned work area.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies.
  • Able to use of motorized vehicles and equipment such as fork lifts, heavy trucks, tamper, portable generators, portable pumps, ditch witch, etc. as required.
  • Able to use of power tools such as saws, compressors, sanders, grinders, etc. as required.
  • Able to use of common hand tools.
  • Experience in light duty electrical power systems (240 V/ single and three phase) and instrumentation calibration and use.
  • Able to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and the general public.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of techniques, equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in operations, maintenance, construction, and mechanical repair of water/wastewater facilities and appurtenances.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Experience/Education

  • At least 2 years’ experience in water / wastewater field, or 3 years’ experience in similar industrial field.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

Travel Requirements

  • Local travel to various worksites only.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Must possess a valid state (of residence) driver’s license.
  • Must obtain NJDEP T1 Operator Certification within 3 years of hire/transfer into position.

Work Environment

  • Must be physically able to work indoor or outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing approved personal protective equipment, as some required work may have potential for exposure to harmful contaminants, environments, noise, etc.
  • Must be physically able of lifting and/or carrying 50 lbs. or more on a frequent basis.
  • Must be physically able of walking up and down stairs and long distances.
  • Must be physically able of carrying, climbing, and working from ladders.
  • Must be physically able to work in confined space environments.
  • Must be physically able to wear a respirator or SCBA as required.
  • Must be physically able to remain alert and attentive to job requirements and co-workers.
Specific Conditions
  • Must be able work shift work. The shift work may be eight (8), ten (10), or twelve (12) hour shifts and may be assigned day, night, early morning, or rotating shifts as needed.
  • There will be weekend, holiday and overtime work as needed.
  • There will be call-in work as needed.
