American Trucking Associations is Hiring a Managing Editor / Multiplatform Near Washington, DC

The Managing Editor / Multiplatform is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the digital content strategy and operations of Transport Topics, a leading news source for the trucking and freight transportation industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism, web publishing, and editing, with a focus on delivering high-quality, engaging content across multiple platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the homepage of ttnews.com, including selecting stories, determining placement, and duration of featured content.
  • Edit stories using InCopy, organize them into appropriate queues, and publish them on the Drupal website.
  • Share stories on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and X.
  • Proofread print pages and provide final approval from the content managers’ desk.
  • Monitor various news sources and social media platforms for relevant content related to Transport Topics.
  • Create and manage a weekly signoff grid for print pages.
  • Generate weekly assignments and email updates for the content managers’ desk.
  • Collaborate with MIS and Marketing teams to monitor site performance, implement enhancements, and discuss content placement.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to staff members as tools and processes evolve.
  • Works closely with Executive Editor and News Editor to ensure a smooth flow of stories across various platforms
  • Troubleshoot technical, procedural, workflow, and style issues as they arise.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in web publishing and editing, preferably in a news organization.
  • Supervisory experience, particularly overseeing a team of web editors, is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in digital content creation, editing, and web publishing using tools like Drupal and HTML.
  • Familiar with content management systems like Falcon, Adobe InCopy, and InDesign.
  • Strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven track record of setting and achieving goals, providing clear instructions, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong team player who can also work independently, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
