Job Duties:

Patrols circuits and prescribes work to be performed by contractor.

Identifies dead or dying trees that may pose a hazard to utility facilities including lines, poles, structures and other infrastructure.

Notifies property owners of tree work to be performed relating to client specifications.

When necessary, obtains permits from public agencies and documents.

Records tree trimming or removal prescription onto designated forms/ hand-held computer or other similar systems associated to perform duties.

Audits tree trimming and tree removal work completed by contractors in the field to ensure compliance with work requests and approve standards and adequacy of completed work.

Maintain working relationships with local client personnel as well as all relevant federal, state and local governmental agencies with which it may become necessary to interact with during the course of performing their prescribed duties.

Conducts work in a safety-conscious manner as not to endanger themselves or others.

Keeps the work area (office and/or company vehicle) neat, orderly and professional in appearance.

Complies with all regulatory requirements and client vegetation management standards.

Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with all safety requirements, law and regulations, and applicable labor agreements.

Requirements:

Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates.

Ability to use company or job-specific equipment.

Ability to use computers and software systems.

Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.

Ability to read and follow maps.

Ability to operate a 4x4 vehicle.

Ability to operate various forestry-related equipment, including but not limited to: clinometer, range finder, DBH tape, and fire safety equipment.

Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Valid California Driver’s License required and clean driving record for previous 5 years.

Two-year or four-year degree in forestry, GIS or related field preferred, or equivalent classroom hours and/or on-the-job experience (ISA certification meets this standard).

Minimum 1 year experience as a VMI or equivalent required on a tree inspection project.

Ability to earn ISA certification in 3 years.

Forestry, fire, or utility work experience.

Education:
