Cover for our Supply Chain Director while she is on maternity leave (training-end of June/July)

PURCHASING / BUYER

JOB DESCRIPTION
Locate and develop sources for long and short term agreements with focus on support of Lean Manufacturing principles. Experienced in Aerospace materials trace and certification requirements. Knowledgeable in the purchase of a variety of consumables, raw materials, direct materials and service support. Considers factors as lead time, present market conditions, price, discounts offered and availability.
Price RFQ’s then issue purchase orders after entering them into the Pentagon system.

Primary Responsibility-
1. Analyze each purchase requisition to determine:
a. That the quality description is accurate in every respect, and that it is the right quality;
b. The method of pricing to be used: catalog, written or telephone inquiries, or estimating;
c. Whether quantity and delivery in formation are correct;
d. The proper Supplier, considering available facilities, dependability, quality, reputation and geographic location;
e. The right price, including all payment terms, F.O.B terms and all tax exemptions permitted;
f. The best method of transporting the purchased item.
2. Be sure that all requests for quotations are clear and complete.
3. Prepare all orders and proofread them. Place rush orders by telephone, fax or email and follow up with written confirmation order.
4. Expedite orders whenever the need calls
5. Check invoices. Price all items not priced when the order was placed. Make necessary adjustments to final prices whenever invoice and order prices disagree. Negotiate with Supplier if necessary.
6. Handle all correspondence concerning over shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quality descriptions and substitutes.
7. Maintain continued working relationship with Supplier sales representatives. Each salesperson’s product should be given prompt, courteous, objective consideration.
8. Maintain current Supplier catalogs and price schedules.
9. Constantly investigate new sources of material and services.
10. Keep abreast of new trends in purchasing techniques.

Relationship with others
1. Cooperates with all departments in buying the right material in the right quantity at the right time.
2. Inform all interested parties regarding conditions affecting material availability and prices so that they may plan accordingly.
3. Act as liaison between individuals in the company and supplier representatives.

Minimum Job Requirement
Relevant education and/or work experience required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Computer literate Verbal and written communication skills
Must be mobile (need to get around the shop)

Personal characteristics:
Honest, professional in conduct and appearance. Must be tactful and cooperative in dealings with others; must enjoy working with people. Must be accurate, dependable and able to work under sustained pressure.
