At the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) we pride ourselves on how well we care for our members and business partners around the world. Finance is an integral part of every organization, and we fully recognize that fact. As a 501c organization and to support our external mission, there are a lot of moving pieces to keep our accounting processes running smoothly. AQHA is currently looking for an organized leader to fill the role of Controller within our Finance department.
Position Summary:
The Controller will plan and direct the accounting and finance operations of AQHA. This role will also serve as a consultant for other internal leadership roles in advising on current financial information while helping to create financially supported strategies that align with organizational goals.
What are we looking for:
Confidence in the ability to provide strong, credible leadership with a focus on staff development and process improvement.
The working knowledge to effectively manage an organization accounting functions to include U.S. GAAP and related standards; auditing principles, practices, rules and regulations; federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Comfort working in a sometimes-ambiguous environment.
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and/or Workday is not required but preferred.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for supervising the accounting processes, procedures, and entries of the company, including the preparation of complete and accurate monthly financial reports with variance analysis.
Engage in critical and confidential aspects of accounting and financial analysis.
Develop and monitor policies, systems, practices, special reports, and financial analysis, etc. of various levels of importance and application.
Advise management on matters of financial procedure and importance for the organization.
Ensure work quality, compliance, and adherence to established financial policies and procedures.
Perform the more technical and complex tasks as needed within the accounting and finance functions while seeking opportunities to develop staff.
Perform complex financial analysis and account reconciliations while looking for areas for improvement or issue resolution.
Review/approve/post journal entries, prepare and interpret financial reports.
Serve as an Accounting liaison to internal and external customers.
Other duties as assigned.

Full-time position available.
Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.
This position is on-site only at our headquarters in Amarillo, Texas.
