American Preparatory Academy is Hiring a Registered Behavior Technician - 23-24 School Year Near West Valley, UT

Job Description:

The Registered Behavior Therapist will provide support to individuals and their families by coordinating and providing services on or off campus for special education students including function analyses and assessments, behavior acquisition and reduction procedures, and adaptive life skills. The Registered Behavior Therapist will also be responsible for the implementation and documentation of goals and progress as it relates to the behavior plans and/or IEPs of their assigned students.

Reports To:

BCBA (to be assigned upon hiring), as well as Campus Administrators, and District Special Education Directors

Responsibilities:

  • Provide behavior support and instruction to assigned students according to the student’s IEP, BIP, and any instructions outlined by the BCBA
  • Assist in the development and implementation of behavior plans, treatment plans, assessment tools to teach appropriate behavior and reduce maladaptive behaviors
  • Observe, play, instruct, and collect quality data during sessions as instructed by the assigned BCBA
  • Record detailed session notes following each session in Brolly and any other method as directed and report to the assigned BCBA
  • Assist the student in acquiring essential life skills such as social/emotional or behavior management
  • Assist families in understanding and implementing the skills needed to promote positive change for the assigned student
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe work environment whether at the school or the client’s home
  • Must maintain a professional appearance
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with assigned BCBA, staff, and families
  • Attend all scheduled meetings including weekly staff meetings, monthly departmental meetings, professional development, and any others assigned
  • Analyze data on a frequent and ongoing basis to guide instruction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Interactions with Others:

Interacts positively with students, parents, staff, teachers, administration, and other school personnel. Provides encouragement and enthusiasm in daily interactions with colleagues, students and families. Adheres to the school communication policy of taking concerns or questions to the person most able to address them, according to the staff manual. Exhibits good character including honesty, assuming goodwill, positivity, diligence, and humility - quickly acknowledging errors and making appropriate amends.

Working Environment:

Work settings are primarily in the classroom or various classrooms, a student’s home, and in an office setting. May be asked to work inside or outside the building to accomplish assigned tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with students with behavior disorders (required)
  • Childcare experience (required)
  • Currently registered as a Behavior Technician with the BACB (required)
  • Ability to maintain high energy levels, play, be creative, and able to think on your feet
  • Knowledge of Google, Word, and Excel systems
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in behavior management skill, instructional skills, oral and written communication, organizational skills and interpersonal relations
  • Ability to utilize a copier, scanner, phone system, and other office materials as necessary for the position
  • Ability to respond quickly to phone calls, text messages, and emails
  • Ability to work with a variety of clients in regard to age and functionality
  • Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Capability to nurture and build strong relationships with students and families to ensure student success
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  • Successful completion of internship and/or formal training as an RBT working with clients, parents, and/or other agencies in assisting those with pervasive developmental disorders such as Autism, developmental disorders, speech/language disorders, etc.

Physical Requirements Not limited to the following:

  • Must be able to constantly get up/down off the floor, move quickly, kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, pull, and have good situational awareness
  • Must be able to sustain prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties
  • Must be able to run short distances if necessary to play with children or keep them safe
  • Must be able to sustain prolonged periods of sitting and working on computer to complete necessary paperwork
