American Preparatory Academy is Hiring a Part-Time Speech Language Pathologist - 24-25 School Year Near Salem, UT

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist at APA will evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with speech or language disorders, formulate individualized treatment programs, train and supervise SLTs, keep appropriate records, and inform staff and parents about students' progress.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses the needs of pupils with speech or language disorders and matches their needs with programs available through the educational system. Meets with students regularly according to treatment program schedule.

  • Evaluates, and maintains records of students' progress.

  • Reports progress to faculty members and meets with them on a regular basis to discuss their evaluations of students' skills as demonstrated in class performance and social interaction with other students.

  • Reports progress to parents and meets with them regularly. Suggests activities parents can do with their child to assist and supplement the student's speech therapy program. Attempts to add to parents’ understanding of the program and answers questions and addresses concerns parents may have.

  • Repeats evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.

  • Talks with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations they may feel about the therapy.

  • Keeps current with professional literature and attends seminars on a regular basis to maintain and update professional skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • SLT oversight as dictated by the regulations that govern SLP/SLT relationships in Utah schools.

Required Education and Qualifications

  • Master's degree in speech pathology required.

  • Current Utah license as a speech pathologist required.

Interactions with Others

Interacts positively with students, parents, staff, teachers, administration, and other district personnel. Provides encouragement and enthusiasm in daily interactions with colleagues, students and families. Adheres to the school communication policy of taking concerns or questions to the person most able to address them, according to the staff manual. Exhibits good character including honesty, assuming goodwill, positivity, diligence, and humility - quickly acknowledging errors and making appropriate amends.

Working Environment

Work setting is primarily in an office or small classroom setting. May be assigned to multiple campuses, requiring travel. Travel between campuses is reimbursed at the federal mileage rate.

Physical Requirements Not limited to the following:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

  • Hearing ability sufficient to evaluate student’s speech and language

Time & Effort Certification (TEC)

Each pay period, the Speech Language Pathologist will be required to certify that the hours for which they will be compensated were spent conducting allowable activities according to IDEA and/or USBE SER 2020, which requires that the SLP’s time at work was spent supporting special education students and/or the special education program. If the SLP is asked to spend time working outside of special education during any pay period, they must notify their supervisor so the TEC and payroll funding can be adjusted.
