Description

The reading specialists are charged with providing systematic real time push-in and pull-out interventions to students, with the primary purpose of improving academic achievement. An interventionist addresses the specific needs of a particular child when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient. Interventionists will additionally provide leadership to classroom teachers in implementing Tier 1 intervention initiatives. They will also plan, implement, and assess intervention services to ensure fidelity. Interventionists will increase the staff’s capacity to effectively implement identified core or universal practices to all students, by providing staff with ongoing and embedded professional development as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials

  • Serve on the building level MTSS team and participate in ongoing MTSS meetings and data analysis meetings. Provide leadership for these meetings in collaboration with the Academic team and Head of School/Assistant Head of School

  • Partner with the leadership team to ensure that Tier 1 interventions are occurring with consistency and fidelity in General Education classrooms

  • Model the use of intervention strategies through their use in the classroom to general and special education teachers

  • Maintain accurate student records, parent communication records, and student progress data reports

  • Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading and math instruction using our progress-monitoring instrument as a base

  • Assist teachers and other administrators in implementing the school intervention initiatives (Edtech, fluency, etc.)

  • Help teachers diagnose reading and math strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.

  • Keep the parents informed as to the purposes and progress of the reading program.

  • Work with support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the reading and math intervention programs with the total curriculum.

  • Promote interest and investment in reading and math growth through events, competitions, hallway/classroom visuals, and incentives.

  • Assist in providing professional development opportunities in universal best practices and interventions to staff. Communicate pertinent information to staff as needed.

  • Facilitate effective instruction that meets the individual needs of diverse learners by consulting with staff on individualized instruction, managing classroom behavior, monitoring student progress, evaluating classroom data, and adjusting intervention and instructional strategies to make content accessible to every student

  • Model exemplary classroom practices and communicate a deep understanding of literacy and math for the purpose of improving student achievement levels.

  • Assist in the scheduling and assignment of student interventions

  • Promote interest in reading or mathematical problem solving

  • Work with the classroom teacher to coordinate reading or math instruction designed to meet the individual needs to students

  • Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress (Star360, fluency, etc.)

  • Perform other responsibilities as needed and assigned by supervisor
