Position Summary:
As an expert in math content and pedagogy, the Math Coach/Curriculum Specialist (MCCS) will be a leader in the American Paradigm School's objective of providing a world-class education to all students.Math coach: the MCCS will provide math-specific professional development to K-12 teachers across the American Paradigm Schools (APS) network. The MCCS will be responsible for working collaboratively and enthusiastically with teachers to develop their skills in areas such as planning, instruction, studentengagement, and analysis of student work.
Curriculum specialist: the MCCS will develop and revise curriculum and assessment resources that support our vision of all students succeeding at grade-level mathematics. The MCCS will regularly design and deliver professional development sessions for small and large groups to support teacher's effective implementation of APS's math program and instructional vision. This person will report directly to the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (DCIA) for Math and work with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) as part of APS's Academic Team.
Role and Responsibilities
Curriculum developmentAPS provides a comprehensive suite of documents that support our adopted curriculum programs, including a scope & sequence, standards-based assessments, and intervention tools. The MCCS will collaborate in the improvement, maintenance, and expansion of these resources.
Coaching and Professional DevelopmentThe Math Coach/Curriculum Specialist's primary responsibility is to provide coaching and professional development directly to teachers in the American Paradigm Schools network.● Build professional, productive, positive relationships with all teachers and school leaders.● Coach teachers in the use of effective math teaching practices aligned to the American Paradigm Schools Rigorous Mathematics Instructional Framework (RMIF).○ Coaching interactions may include observation and feedback, real-time coaching, collaborative planning, modeling, video analysis, data analysis, and student work analysis.○ Each coaching cycle is driven by a thorough, purposeful coaching plan approved by the school leader and the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Math.● Plan and lead professional development sessions and/or planning meetings for groups of teachers.○ Plan and implement year-long professional development programs that support the learning teachers will obtain from coaching cycles.● Maintain continuous records of coaching interactions and progress; regularly report to school leaders and the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Math.
Academic Team MembershipAs a member of the APS Academic Team, the Math Coach/Curriculum Specialist will have a role in improving outcomes for students in all aspects of their school lives.● Support the development and implementation of American Paradigm's vision and instruction.● Attend periodic Academic Team meetings to stay current on Academic Team initiatives across the APS network.● Periodically share progress and challenges with the Academic Team.● Participate in interdisciplinary Academic Team working groups to research, design, implement, and improve APS initiatives.

Relationships are the foundation of classroom and school life and underpin teaching, learning, and prosocial development. Building relationships and fostering students' sense of community are a critical part of our work at APS and as such, we have partnered with the Collaborative Classroom to implement the Caring School Community Model in all of our schools.
Caring School Community model builds positive classroom and schoolwide communities while developing students' social and emotional learning (SEL) skills and competencies. It is designed to help students become caring, responsible members of their school communities and, ultimately, to grow into humane, principled, and skilled citizens of a democratic society. The lessons in the program help faculty and staff create a warm, safe, and disciplined school environment where all community members can develop the skills and dispositions they need to interact constructively with others.
