SENIOR TAX ANALYST

DEPARTMENT: Corporate Finance

REPORTS TO: Manager of Tax, Treasury & Risk

LOCATION: Columbus - Deforest, WI

SUMMARY: The Tax analyst is responsible for supporting the company’s compliance with tax laws and regulations, assisting with annual and quarterly accruals, support tax audits, assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of strategies to minimize our taxes, and mentoring interns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compliance

  • Preparation of annual Federal and State including; coordination with external CPA firm to ensure timely and accurate filings, liase with business units for financial information to support tax compliance workpapers, prepare M-1 adjustments for 1120-S
  • Prepare apportionment workpapers for state returns
  • Review and trace amounts from 1120-S to workpapers, state returns, and share holder K-1s to ensure accurate filings
  • Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual Sales, B&O, Franchise, and business filings
  • Lead preparation of Form 1099s
  • Manage exemption certificate compliance and administration
  • Develop and execute monitoring process of APC’s tax footprint; as required own VDA process
  • Coordinate and lead specific engagements with third party providers on items like R&D tax credit, LIFO, Unicap, etc..
  • Coordinate, review, and prepare tax payments required for corporate and shareholders
  • Timely filing of extensions

Advisory

  • Provide guidance to business partners internally, vendors, and customers on tax legislation
  • Ad-hoc research to support business decisions and planning initiatives
  • Support and advise HR on payroll tax requirements including Nexus implications

Planning

  • Evaluate and execute on potential PTE filings where shareholders may benefit from a federal deduction
  • Drive discussions with third party providers around tax planning to reduce shareholder tax liabilities and/or increase tax benefits
  • Support the design and implementation of automated solutions (IT) to better support the tax function at APC
  • Manage state credits with COE finance leaders
  • Review existing processes and identify areas for streamlining and process improvement

Budget and Reporting

  • Develop and own quarterly analysis of APC corporate and shareholder tax liability and cash tax impact
  • Owner of all tax accounts and accruals required for month end, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Own and prepare with/without analysis 

Audit

  • Lead and be main contact for any Federal and/or State tax audits
  • Support COE tax audits in Use, Sales, and Property tax audits

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Competent PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite with prior experience in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint preferred
  • High degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • ERP knowledge a plus
  • Comfortable working in Excel with large sets of data
  • Preference for prior experience in finance/accounting function
  • Understanding of GAAP and IRC tax code
  • Preferred experience in pass through entity and payroll tax 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or similar discipline; 3 years of experience in a tax role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Basic understanding of finance and accounting.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
