Job Description:

The American Motorcyclist Association’s Off-Road Racing Manager manages and executes association responsibilities for select AMA-sanctioned amateur competition events. That includes fostering relationships with competition event organizers, operational partners, and rule-making commissions and groups, as well as working with individual competitors to ensure fairness in competition and completeness in results.

AMA Racing Managers often focus on select related disciplines to build rapport, experience and connections within racing’s distinct communities. Reporting to the AMA Deputy Director of Racing, this position will communicate, cooperate and work across departments to ensure AMA resources are fully utilized to further the AMA mission with respect to amateur motorcycle racing in America.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining positive and productive relationships with AMA-chartered clubs and promoters

  • Managing the efficient execution of the National Advancement Program, rules, protests and appeals for AMA-sanctioned competition events

  • Collecting and updating results for AMA-sanctioned competition activity in select disciplines

  • Assisting with all aspects of event operations at select events, from racer registration to rule enforcement to results process to awards presentations

  • Managing and training officials, referees and operational volunteers for AMA-sanctioned competition events

  • Interfacing with other AMA departments, including Communications, Membership Marketing and Government Relations, to communicate and execute opportunities to support AMA-chartered competition organizers and competitors in AMA-sanctioned events

  • Managing volunteers on AMA Racing Commissions, as assigned, including calling, organizing and chairing meetings, as needed

  • Writing and consulting on supplemental rules related to select AMA-sanctioned competition activity

  • Developing and administering various programs and activities related to AMA-sanctioned events

  • Helping to coordinate qualifications, logistics and travel for United States team activity managed by the AMA, as assigned

  • Ensuring AMA responsibilities are met with respect to select disciplines in AMA-sanctioned activity, including event promotion, insurance facilitation and results reporting

  • Assisting with all operational aspects of events directly operated and promoted by the AMA, including but not limited to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, the AMA Championship Banquet, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and various events held on the AMA campus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Depth of knowledge and first-hand experience with amateur motorcycle racing in the United States, including as a competitor, organizer, mechanic, volunteer, referee and/or team manager

  • Familiarity with AMA competition rules, policies and procedures

  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills

  • Experience in client management and relationship building

  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; associate degree with additional professional experience in the field of marketing, sport/event management, communications or sales considered

  • Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and bend, stoop and push/pull heavier objects related to event setup and management

  • Position is based out of the AMA Headquarters in Pickerington, OH, but does require the ability to travel, as well as work in motorsports competition environments and inclement weather
