Job Description

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator, Health Promotions . Working as a member of the Health Promotions & Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

The person in the role will coordinate, implement and evaluate lung health programs throughout Anchorage as well as implement grant deliverables and establish relationships with community partners in the Anchorage Municipality. This is a grant-funded position.

Location:

The position is located at the American Lung Association’s Anchorage, Alaska office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the project manager to develop, implement and evaluate a public health education program that will focus on lung health awareness and tobacco prevention and control.
  • Build, maintain and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across the greater Anchorage Municipality, including American Lung Association programs including Freedom From Smoking, Better Breathers Clubs, Asthma Basics, etc. within assigned territory.
  • Work with manager to coordinate all aspects of grant projects activities, including trainings, presentations, education health fairs, etc. and serve as lead for these activities.
  • Help to develop and effectively utilize timelines and work plans to ensure completion of program deliverables.
  • Explore opportunities to connect and enhance collaborations throughout the Lung Association.
  • Contribute to quarterly progress reports and monthly reporting of grant activities.
  • Research and implement best practices for tobacco prevention and control within priority populations.
  • Collaborate with project manager in growing American Lung Association programs within assigned territory.
  • Provide support for Alaska programs and development events, such as lung cancer workshop, LUNG FORCE, Conference, Clean Air Challenge, Breathe Easy Brunch and other related activities.
  • Participate on national American Lung Association program workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities assigned.
  • Participate in and support community related programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field preferred.
  • Some experience in public health or related field.
  • Experience in coalition building and community health development.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to clearly articulate the mission and vision of the ALA.
  • Strong project management skills in order to research, develop, and execute specific program deliverables.
  • Strategic in developing/maintaining relationships with medical professionals, public health community, and members of the public.
  • Computer literate; knowledge using Microsoft programs required.
  • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned areas, including the Anchorage Municipality 20% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required.
  • Required to travel statewide for providing technical assistance, meetings and conferences as required by assigned grants.
  • Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form, including vaping.

Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $46,500 and $48,500 per annum.

  • Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year, as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year. We also offer Paid Parental Leave for eligible employees.
