About American International College:

American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 88 acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. Job Description:

  • Provides administrative oversight of SLS and coordination of legally mandated services and specialized support in accordance with ADA, Sections 504 and 508, and the ADAAA for students with a wide rage of disabilities.

  • Provides operations management for Center for Accessibility and Academic Accommodations (CASAA) and Reaching Educational Achievements (REACH) which includes revenue, budget and resource management, maintaining accurate recordkeeping and database system creation and management, hire and supervision of a qualified proctors and tutors, maintaining written and communicated policies and procedures, and developing assessment plans. Maintains and advances Supportive Learning Services enrollment to meet revenue projections. Guides long range planning efforts for CASAA and REACH.

  • Reviews and manages official documentation with regard to currency, completeness, and appropriateness in accordance with ADA, Sections 504 and 508, the ADAAA and CASAA documentation requirements. Determines accommodations and tutor support based on diagnostic information, current impact in the post-secondary setting, reasonableness of the request, standards of practice and student request.

  • Oversees test administration, which includes collaboration with faculty and assurance of academic integrity.

  • Sets up and maintains a database system for monitoring and reporting on tutoring enrollment and the number students with disabilities, their needs and effectiveness of service delivery for program improvement purposes.

  • Works individually with students to formalize an accommodation plan. Advises students with regard to academic requirements and self-advocacy. Acts as a liaison, advocate and resource person for students with disabilities. Develops and implements transition and success activities for students with disabilities.

  • Represents CASAA and REACH as a participant on various college committees and supports activities/events that would increase REACH enrollment. Develops disability awareness curriculum for faculty and staff promoting enhanced disability inclusion, community awareness and retention for students with disabilities. Provides professional guidance and cultural programming about issues related to disability and diversity.

  • Keeps professionally current by participating in department and college-wide activities and training, and, when appropriate, regional and national meetings; maintains a working knowledge of changing practices and legislation in the field of disability services.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Required Degree(s): Master's degree in Special Education, Education, School Psychology or related field.

  • Required Field of Expertise: Special Education; Experience providing academic accommodations for students

  • Preferred Training/Cert: Prior work with students and/or in the disabilities field

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Previous experience interpreting results of psycho-educational testing and other documentation for students with learning disorders.

  • Experience working with adolescents and adults with learning disorders.

  • Experience with department oversight, supervision, and assessment practices

  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to communicate student needs and campus responsibilities to faculty, staff, and students throughout the organization.

  • Advanced computer knowledge, proficiency, and skills. Must be comfortable working with various assistive software programs and database systems.

Work Schedule

The Director of the Center for Accessibility Services and Academic Accommodations and REACH Program position will begin on July 1, 2024. This is a full-time, exempt-level, benefit-eligible position. Normal office hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, flexible to the needs of the department. Occasional evening and weekend work required.
