American Gypsum is Hiring a Lubrication Technician Near Georgetown, SC

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintenance

  • The Oiler will work with and assist the electricians and mechanics in the daily maintenance requirements of the plant.
  • Provides initial and continued support of the plant equipment’s lubrication schedule as stored in the PM database.
  • Performs and properly documents all scheduled lubrication of plant equipment.
  • Will be expected to visually inspect and monitor all bearings, gearboxes, chains, etc. involved in the production process to ensure reliable and predictable performance.
  • Advise the appropriate personnel of any equipment that needs further inspection or needs to be scheduled for replacement.
  • Responsible for ensuring all lubrication documentation is current. Includes equipment manuals, methods and specifications, and operating procedures, and other documents as assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the necessary lubricants for all equipment are stored in the proper location and the inventory of the lubricants is sufficient to perform the daily lubrication schedule.
  • Assist in maintaining a schedule of routine PM checks for all required equipment.
  • Must be able to perform mechanical tasks to assist the maintenance and mobile mechanics when needed.
  • Must possess excellent mechanical skills.
  • Will be expected to maintain, document, and modify, if necessary, the plants lubrication schedule.
  • Will be expected to answer and respond to calls during off hours to assist in resolving production upsets and breakdowns.

Safety

  • Oiler has the responsibility to participate in all required safety training and meetings along with meeting all American Gypsum, DEP, and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Be familiar with all OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Operate in a safe manner following all plant and departmental safety rules and procedures.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping in the maintenance shop, oil storage area, and throughout the plant where work is conducted.
  • Ensure that all lubricant handling and storage is done in an environmentally safe manner.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • During maintenance down time and unplanned machine breakdowns you may be required to perform mechanical duties as needed. 
  • Must be flexible with job duties. You may be required to fill in on other jobs or in other departments when the business or organization is short-handed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

  • A variety of hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and office equipment are used by the Oiler. 

WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required. 
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing plant is required.
  • Strong observational and diagnostic skills are essential.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Solid knowledge of the different types of available lubricants.
  • Good math skills are required to make precision measurements. Basic computer skills are required in word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, and databases for data entry.
  • Written communication by hand and by computer is required to prepare reports and for business communications. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Oiler must be able to stand or walk up to 80% of the assigned work shift.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:

  • The position requires work in the plant, mill, maintenance shop, blending building and offices. 
  • The plant areas are not heated or air conditioned.
  • Hearing protection is required in all areas outside of the offices and laboratory.
  • Dust masks are available to use with nuisance dust.
  • Must be physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders and of other means of accessing equipment and work areas to perform inspections and/or drop checks.
  • Adequate vision and hearing will be required for safe pedestrian movement and inspection of equipment and job stations.
  • The job requires good organizational skills and the ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must know how to operate a forklift and a man lift (equipment specific training will be provided)
  • Must be willing to be on call to provide assistance in resolving production upsets or machine breakdowns.
