American GI Forum - National Veterans Outreach Program is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to establish and maintain a comprehensive community service agency with a diversified funding source serving the needs of Veterans, their families, and other individuals of the community who are in need. Our goal is to establish innovative programs of service for the contemporary needs, through an expansion and growth policy that will seek complimentary services that will generate self-sustaining mechanisms for the organization.


SUMMARY

AGIF-NVOP is seeking an experienced Lead Grant Writer for our San Antonio area programs. The candidate will create and coordinate grants to support the organization’s annual operations and program development; seeks to increase external support for the organization and its programs to strengthen the quality of services and to expand programs. Work closely with the program monitoring and evaluation director to explore ideas that support the fiscal and programmatic capacities of the organization.


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Grant Writer

  • Researches and identifies new funding opportunities from private foundations, corporations, and state and federal agencies.
  • Maintains the quality-control activities required to ensure the accuracy and adequacy of each document or publication, including but not limited to in-process and final reviews, researching of appropriate data and information, and editing for compliance with all applicable specifications and standards.
  • Develops, creates, writes, prepares, and completes grant proposals.
  • Develops and updates proposal calendar; tracks and communicates results of proposal submissions.

  • Works with program staff and senior leadership to collect the most accurate and up-to-date information on organization’s programs and program needs and conduct timely and accurate reporting for each grant.
  • Developing relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Assists with fundraising initiatives
  • Prepare/Submit administrative reports for grant contractors
  • Displaying adherence to the organization’s mission
  • Maintaining proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent
  • Two (2) years related experience preferred
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Must always have a current Texas driver’s license
  • Must always have applicable automobile liability insurance
  • Must pass drug testing and background check


WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will conduct office work, meet with clientele, and team members. Travel by automobile will be necessary, and employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions. Employee will attend various meetings with representatives of other support organizations to ensure effective communication and liaison with the larger community.
