DEPARTMENT: Claims
LOCATION: This is a remote position based in Michigan. Ideally, we are looking for someone based in Grand Rapids, but will consider talent that is willing to travel in central and northern Michigan.
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Perform loss adjustment, pre-acceptance and quality control activities for Crop Hail and Federally Reinsured Crop Insurance products in accordance with established procedures. Works independently with the majority of the work is performed on the premises of the insured. Responsible for the claims territory in Midwest Michigan, including Grand Rapids.
REPORTS TO: Claims Supervisor
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 
• Communicates directly and follows up with the insured as needed to perform loss adjustment, pre-acceptance, or quality control inspections to gather the facts involved with the settlement of reported claims or inspections. This information is recorded and submitted electronically to the company.
• Stays abreast of crop insurance industry procedures relating to proper adjustment of claims.
• Analyzes and makes recommendations for enhancements for company software products to assure compliance with company and RMA procedures.
• Performs claim audits and reviews.
• Other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS: Participates as an employee and representative of AFBIS, Inc. in a professional and courteous manner.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED: 
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree or two to three years of crop insurance experience with emphasis in the claims area or a combination of the two.
• Maintain the required adjuster certifications and licenses. 
• A valid driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 
• Knowledge of farming practices and crops typical to service area.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy information and applicable procedures.
• Basic computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft word and excel. 
• Must have thorough understanding of Crop Hail and MPCI forms, endorsements, and approved claims adjusting procedures.
• Must have strong communication skills and be proficient with the computer. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to drive for extended periods of time.
• Primary territory includes the home state and adjourning states which requires some overnight travel.
• Must be willing to travel and accept assignments in any state serviced by AFBIS.
• Climbing grain bins or other storage structures and walking on uneven ground in field adjusting crops.
