Reports toPatient Services Manager 

Summary/Objective Patient Services Specialist is responsible for patient scheduling, registration, proper routing of phone calls and communications, managing patient billing, ensuring procedures are billed according to contracts, reviewing/updating client accounts as necessary and operation of the practice management/electronic medical records software.

Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1.Basic working knowledge of medical and vision insurance plans.

2.Working knowledge of insurance appeals processes.

3. Experience with accounts receivable payment posting.

4.Patient registration, insurance verification and appointment scheduling.

5.Report issues and trends to appropriate management personnel in billing office; work collaboratively to develop solutions.

6.Provide supportive assistance to clinic staff regarding billing concerns/issues.

7.Answer telephone calls from patients; addressing patient's questions or concerns in a professional and ethical matter.

8. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position is not responsible for the supervision of others.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional medical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.The employee is always required to use eyes to complete and process billing responsibilities. 

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position (36 hours/week), with a four day workweek. Hours are M - Th, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

TravelTravel is not required for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. 1 - 2 years business experience in a healthcare environment

2.2 - 3 years of customer service experience

3. Intermediate skill level: Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook

4. High School Diploma or GED 

Preferred Education and Experience

1.Medical terminology, knowledge of insurance and reimbursement procedures

2. 1-2 years of Optical Experience

3. Medical Coding and Billing Certification

4.Compulink Software Experience
