The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) organization has a mission to create marketplace demand and drive commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, marketing, and customer experiences.

The Senior Designer (Card Design) will report to the Design Director and will be a key member of the experience design team, responsible for design management across the card design process.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop design and creative concepts for Card Design team.
  • Execution of design initiatives and deliverables for Card Design.
  • You are an expert and have passion for all things package design, branding and VI.
  • Expert ability to visually communicate concepts in design, realistically translating physical printing techniques in presentations.
  • Passion for design innovation, material and industrial design trends and advancements.
  • Preparing and finalizing artwork for print production, ensuring it meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Collaborating with the team to ensure that designs are optimized for print.
  • Conducting prepress checks to verify colors, images, and layouts are print-ready.
  • Coordinating and visiting vendors to oversee the printing process and ensure accurate reproduction of designs.
  • Making adjustments to artwork as needed, such as resizing, color adjusting, and retouching images.
  • Selecting appropriate techniques for each project.
  • Generating print proofs for approval and making revisions based on feedback.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining organized files and documentation for each project, including version control and archival purposes.
  • Staying updated on industry trends, software updates, and advancements in printing technology.
  • Helping to troubleshoot technical issues related to printing, such as color calibration and file compatibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6 years of design experience at a leading creative agency or in-house brand experience.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Experience in designing physical credit cards, with a focus on plastic and metal material types.
  • In-depth understanding of material form factors and their implications for credit card design.
  • Comfort with innovative form factors and the ability to push boundaries in card design.
  • Demonstrated expertise, including experience designing for and innovating within content management systems.
  • Knowledge of working in and organizing DAM systems is a plus (e.g. Frontify)
  • Knowledge of printing processes, techniques, and file formats.
  • Experience with prepress and preparing files for printing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of color theory and typography.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as this role will often work closely with vendors and marketing partners.
  • Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and lead creative team members.
  • Ability to work with a Project Management tool (e.g. Workfront)
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant work and demonstrating technical skills and creativity.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
