Job Summary
Focuses on identifying threats and persons/groups of interest (POI/GOI), as they relate to security’s mission of protecting people, information and assets. Conducts behavioral threat assessments to identify threats and leverage current tools to mitigate risk exposure. Delivers intelligence products track potential or credible threats which may harm or embarrass the company. General responsibilities of the PI Investigator will be to investigate, research, and assess a variety of sources across all mediums as they relate to AEP.
Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
Protective Intelligence and Open-Source Research:
  • Conducts comprehensive research on potential threats or threat actors, using a suite of protective intelligence tools.
  • Work closely with Human Resources, Legal, Ethics and Compliance on cases involving open-source research regarding existing or former employees and contractors.
  • Manage the Site Access Program in conjunction with HR, Legal, Labor and Key Business Units.
  • Systematically monitor and collect open-source intelligence on emerging threats and threat actors.
  • Support Corporate Events and specific business travel, by researching event destinations/locations, and analyzing the local and peripheral risks in the area. Threat Assessment and Investigations.
  • Distinguish actors which pose a legitimate concern of escalation, from those seeking attention.
  • Work with Region Security Coordinators and Director of Physical Security in conducting threat assessments on persons of interest.
  • Draft original products of intelligence briefs which will be reported through Physical Security.
  • Provide Protective Intelligence case management and develop reporting metrics.
  • Maintain active and accurate records of cases, intelligence briefs and Persons of Interests.
  • Work with Intelligence vendors to ensure accurate information is up to date and contract service-level-agreements (SLAs) are being followed.
  • Create, develop, and maintain documentation as it relates to persons of interest, events of concern, and emerging threats.
  • Develop and present data as it relates to the protective intelligence function.
  • Act as liaison with Federal, State and local law enforcement and investigation agencies for physical security operations in assigned Regions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from multiple departments to ensure information is appropriately shared and actioned in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree OR Associate’s degree and two years’ relevant experience; OR High School diploma and 4 years’ relevant experience.
Experience: In addition to any experience required above, minimum of 5 years’ experience in protective intelligence, work as an intelligence analyst, or forensic psychology experience to include corporate, military, law enforcement or government agency experience.
Other Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of investigative techniques and criminal procedure.
  • Risk Assessment: experience and/or training in qualifiable threat assessment instruments such as WAVR-21 or other Structured Professional Judgement (SPJ) tools. Executive protection experiences preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure within tight timelines.
  • Project Management: familiarity in project management and case management.
  • Professional Networking: Strong Existing Network and Networking Skills: Membership to Organizations Such As ATAP, AIRIP, OSAC, or similar are a plus.
  • Research: familiarity with a wide range of reporting sources, social media channels, query building and live monitoring of current events.
  • Reporting & Analysis: strong analytical skillset, with experience in technical report writing, presentation building and delivery.

Compensation Grade:

Compensation Range:
$94,225.00-122,490.00 USD
Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.
