American Crane & Equipment Corporation is seeking dynamic individuals to join our team as Crane Technicians in multiple locations across the country! Our Crane Technicians work with and troubleshoot 480v 3 phase motors on heavy industrial crane and hoist equipment.

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of accredited apprenticeship or vocational program, or 3-4 years on-the-job training.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance background.
  • Knowledge of industrial production machinery, OSHA regulations, and relevant industry codes.
  • Valid Driver’s license and DOT Certification.
  • Ability to work with supervision using established guidelines and procedures.
  • Travel and work in varying environmental conditions.

Essential Duties:

  • Read mechanical and electrical schematics and perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Perform mechanical and welding duties as needed, meeting all specified requirements.
  • Troubleshoot various sizes and types of cranes, determining and implementing corrective actions.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-reliance and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide accurate and complete information to the Service Manager for the installation, replacement, or ordering of replacement parts.
  • Operate machinery in both shop and field settings, including saw, fork truck, cherry picker, high lift, torch welder, transit, and laser beam equipment.
  • Complete documentation with relevant information for reports to engineering, production, or customers, utilizing digital camera and docking station.
  • Remain informed of industry regulations such as OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, HMI, and others, periodically refreshing and updating knowledge.
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on electric overhead traveling cranes and hoists across various customer sites, including being on-call as part of service office rotation for after-hours support.
  • Consult with customers on repair and safety matters, offering recommendations to enhance their material handling applications. Identify items requiring quotation.
  • Conduct thorough on-site troubleshooting encompassing electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic components to identify equipment malfunctions. Utilize visual inspection, test procedures, and appropriate equipment for diagnosis. Conduct a comprehensive post-repair audit to ensure all safety features are functional, documenting any deficiencies and affixing deficiency tags if necessary.
  • Document findings and provide customers with corrective recommendations, including issuing written safety notifications for observed or known safety concerns. Coordinate to facilitate repair processes based on customer intentions.
  • Generate sales leads during service calls and report them to the service office as per established guidelines.
  • Complete electronic documentation using company digital tools, obtaining customer signatures and acceptance.
  • Maintain accurate, legible service reports and other necessary documents, submitting them promptly following established guidelines.
  • Ensure company-issued equipment, vehicles, and assets are maintained in safe working condition. Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles, reporting any deficiencies to the supervisor for resolution.
  • Keep the service vehicle stocked with necessary forms, literature, inventory, and materials, documenting their use or sale to customers.
  • Adhere to all established safety rules and procedures, including those outlined by customers.
  • Participate in required safety meetings/communications.
  • Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work full-time hours; overtime required based on Service Department schedules.
  • Ability to climb access and extension ladders, work at varying heights, and lift/move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Hand/eye coordination for tool and equipment operation.
  • Vision abilities including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in outside weather conditions.
  • Comfort working near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes/airborne particles, and vibration.
