Chemicals/Environmental Policy – Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs

Summary

National manufacturing trade association seeks a person to work on scientific and technical issues in an advocacy environment. Key issues would include chemicals management, product labeling, TSCA, FIFRA , air quality (VOC) regulations and sustainability issues. Candidate should preferably have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, or chemistry and proven track record of managing science and technology activities, including support for research projects and technical publications. Knowledge of the paint and coatings or allied chemical industry would be helpful. Experience in a manufacturing facility for formulated products is a plus.

Responsibilities include analysis of legislative and regulatory proposals, advocacy on local, state or federal level, including comment development, submission and testifying before regulatory agencies or legislative bodies as well as development of compliance guidance. Qualified candidates will exhibit the following:

  • Ability to evaluate regulatory requirements under TSCA and best practices to achieve goals articulated in new regulations.
  • Interest in analyzing and writing about proposed regulations, while analyzing issues related to and justifications for regulatory programs as described by administering agencies.
  • Interest in meeting with agency staff to describe industry positions about targeted issues related to risk evaluations, impacts on products and worker exposure mitigation, considering best practices to achieve EPA goals and statutory requirements.
  • Interest in evaluating Systematic Review Methods, EPA modeling methods for Risk Evaluations under TSCA and pesticide registration review methods under FIFRA, with a focus on use in treated articles.
  • Interest in evaluating quality of data used in risk evaluations. (TSCA / FIFRA)
  • Interested in addressing issues related to data availability for agency analysis. (TSCA / FIFRA)
  • Coordinating with stakeholders to identify data sources and coordinating data submissions, responsive to EPA requests and data needs.

Ability to travel required.

Location

This position is located at ACA headquarters in Washington, DC and will operate within a hybrid work environment (working both onsite and remotely).
