American Civil Liberties Union is Hiring a Communications Manager Near Concord, NH

Position Overview

The ACLU Foundation of New Hampshire is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Communications Manager. The Communications Manager is a skilled multimedia communications professional that supports and enhances the organization’s strategic communications, digital outreach, and public advocacy efforts on a range of civil rights and civil liberties issues. Under the supervision of the Communications Director, this role translates our legal, policy, and public education work powerfully to inspire, inform, and move people to action.

Core Accountabilities 

  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to develop and lead key communications strategies and campaigns to advance key policy, legal, and development goals.
  • Work with Communications Director and/or outside vendors to plan, schedule, and implement a digital communications calendar for website content, promotional emails, and social media posts.
  • Draft, copyedit, and oversee production of persuasive, public-facing written and graphic materials, including op-eds, talking points, action alerts, social media and blog posts, and more.
  • Monitor, analyze, and present analysis of media coverage and online engagement to maximize engagement opportunities and improve communications strategies.
  • Actively monitor the news and social media channels to identify emerging stories and rapid response moments, and regularly share press developments to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate, consistent, clear and responsible messaging that represents the ACLU of New Hampshire and its positions compellingly and convincingly.
  • Support ACLU-NH events and actions through production and deployment of resources, such as online ads, posters, promotional emails, swag, or flyer creation.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to manage, coordinate and calendar deliverables for cross-platform distribution including press releases, statements, member emails, social media content, and rapid response content.

Requirements

  • At least two years professional experience in a communications, marketing, or journalism role. 
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and copy-editing skills, with a keen, creative eye for design and presentation. Proficiency in AP Style.
  • Experience with graphic design programs preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Detail oriented with strong follow through, demonstrated ability to solve problems, ability to meet tight deadlines and manage resources effectively.
  • A commitment to civil liberties and the mission of the American Civil Liberties Union.
  • Willingness to work occasional irregular hours, including some weekends.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license or be able to access adequate transportation to travel to community events.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position will be $45,000 - $55,000. The ACLU-NH provides excellent benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, vision, dental insurance, generous paid-time-off, and a Defined Contribution 401K Retirement Plan.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to operate a computer, laptop, and other office equipment, as well as personal electronic devices in order to draft/write, communicate, and perform other functions of the job in a professional office setting. Position also requires the ability to attend and set-up community events with reasonable accommodations (i.e. setting up easels and writing pads, pop-up tents, and bottled water).

Note: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ACLU of NH will temporarily accommodate remote work for this position. Subsequently, this position will primarily be based out of the ACLU of NH office in Concord, NH. This is a full-time position, and the ACLU of NH will provide equipment for temporary remote work.
