American Academy of Ophthalmology is Hiring a Director, Association Management Services Near San Francisco, CA

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is searching for a Director to work in their San Francisco Association Management Services (sfams.com) department. As Director and executive of a for-profit subsidiary wholly owned by the Academy, this position leads two distinct business entities—San Francisco Association Management Services (SFAMS) and the San Francisco Matching Program (SF Match). (sfmatch.org)

For both entities, this position is responsible for developing and executing strategic and operational plans in support of delivering contractual services to clients and customers.

This position oversees and directs 19 employees and annual revenue budgets of approximately $6.5MM.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish SF AMS strategic priorities consistent with the Academy’s goals for AMS and ensure there are appropriate financial and staff resources to provide current contracted services and future growth opportunities on a profitable basis
  • Provide leadership, supervision, coaching and mentoring to SF AMS’ team members
  • Oversee the operations of SF AMS including development and maintenance of procedures; adherence to established policies; and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure successful coordination with Academy-provided operations services
  • Provide Academy senior leadership with quarterly reports on SF AMS plans and results, including meeting with the COO/CFO/CLRO quarterly or more often as requested on finance, HR and risk management matters
  • Oversee SF Match to deliver medical residency and fellowship matching services, including a centralized application service, to over 25 specialties and subspecialties across the spectrum of medicine
  • Working relations with Managed Client Associations
  • Boards of Directors/Trustees/Councils – advise, execute, collaborate, negotiate, give and receive information
  • Client Members – advise, execute, give and receive information
  • Academy Members, public: give/receive information
  • Subspecialty and specialized interest group leaders (Presidents, EVPs, etc.)– advise, collaborate, negotiate, represent, give and receive information
  • Continuing Education and Accreditation Organizations – collaborate, negotiate, give/receive information
  • Maintain quality within the parameters of the approved budgets

Requirements:

  • Five plus years of executive-level leadership
  • Knowledge and experience including strategic planning; financial planning and management; business development; and human resource management.
  • Healthcare industry knowledge and experience, preferably in medicine working with physicians.
  • Knowledge and experience with legalities related to for-profit and non-profit organizations.
  • Management of volunteer boards/leaders.
  • Builds and maintains internal and external relationships effectively.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex problems efficiently.
  • Exercises good judgment in evaluating and managing risks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient PC skills: Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Demonstrates effective negotiation and collaboration skills
  • Exhibits outstanding oral and written communication abilities, enabling effective communication across various organizational levels– client leadership and members; partner organizations; and team members
  • Excels in leading and inspiring team members
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree in business management or related field strongly desired
  • CAE—Certified Association Executive designation or equivalent knowledge and experience is strongly desired
  • CMP—Certified Meeting Professional designation or equivalent knowledge and experience is strongly desired

Salary: $223,139 – 234,884
