Job Description ROLE DESCRIPTION To develop and deploy Automation technology related solutions that will help the business achieve its operational objectives related to quality, waste, and operational efficiency. The key automation technologies currently in scope include robotics, AGV’s, vision/inspection systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Individuals applying for this position should have a deep understanding of all of these core technologies as well as some practical, relevant hands-on project deployment experience working in a few key areas. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Aligns with and actively supports Amcor values by putting safety first in all situations. Serves as a role model to others by ensuring that all project work is completed in accordance with our safety policies. Project management – Identify appropriate technical use cases where automation solutions can provide a competitive benefit to the business. Is responsible for the scope development and business use case of a solution. Provides full range of project management support including schedule, budget control and stakeholder communications with minimal guidance. Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies when appropriate. Actively participates in the installation, checkout, start-up and training needs of the project. Completes Project Closeout and Post Mortem analysis reports as required. Participates in a technical support capacity on larger Automation project deployments as requested. Fosters the integration and development of team IT resources through teaching, mentoring and providing opportunities for sharing cross functional critical experiences related to engineering functions such as PLC/machine control, HMI function and edge device use. Collaborates with the purchasing function as required. This includes vetting potential vendors, providing technical support, issuing purchase orders, some price negotiation, and expediting. Secures and maintains working knowledge of current automation industry best practices as they may apply to Amcor products and equipment. COMPETENCIES •Core attributes: Strong technical working knowledge of PLC machine controls, personal computers, IT applications, Networks, Robotic programming, end effector development •Experienced with the use, deployment and programming, automation, AGV’s, vision systems. •Technical Expertise: contributes to the design, development and implementation of technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solved using existing methods. Uses a forward-looking approach when analyzing and implementing technical solutions. •Project Management: Effective team contributor; provides appropriate feedback and helps motivate team members to work toward common goals. Ability to recognize and respond proactively to project challenges and draws upon appropriate resources from other functional areas as needed to mitigate risk. •Communication: Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills when engaging with customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Ability to prepare and deliver engineering presentations to a variety of audiences. •Collaboration: Actively engages in problem solving and creative thinking process. Inherent responsibility to train and mentor peers when appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS A bachelors degree in engineering – BSEE, CS&E or related technical field, or Controls and Automation. 7 -10 years of experience working in Robotics. Other experience in the following areas AGV’s, Vision systems, Hardware interfacing, IP Networking, Automation, Machine Learning and AI is beneficial 3-5 years of Project Management experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
