DESCRIPTION
Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
The Role
This role is for a Software Engineer who will design, implement, and operate globally available distributed systems geared towards giving Kuiper the ability to operate within realistic virtual Kuiper environments at scale. You’ll build systems using the latest AWS technologies, leveraging best-in-industry software engineering practices.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and Implement Distributed Cloud-based Services and APIs
- Partner with device software, frontend, networking, and security engineering teams
- Evangelize engineering excellence best practices and mentor junior engineers.
A day in the life
You will be working with a dynamic team of passionate engineers to build services and APIs which will facilitate and orchestrate simulations to ensure the highest quality of performance for Kuiper devices such as satellites, ground gateways, and customer terminals. You will be building low-latency, highly scalable architecture that is critical to delivering high quality internet service to customers.
About the team
The team owns the simulation domain for Project Kuiper. We build software to perform both virtual and HITL simulations for satellite operations, ground terminal communications, and customer terminal operations. These simulations are leveraged by teams all across Kuiper.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
