DESCRIPTION

Amazon Health Service’s Compliance team is seeking a Controlled Substance Compliance Senior Manager for the controlled substance compliance function supporting the pharmacy business. In this role, the Controlled Substance Compliance Senior Manager will have the opportunity to build a foundational element of the compliance team, which includes policy development and implementation as well as the development of business practices associated with our controlled substance ordering, processing, dispensing and inventory management. A successful candidate in this role will be able to quickly learn the pharmacy business and build strong working relationships with stakeholders. This individual will be responsible for carefully monitoring all aspects of the controlled substance lifecycle and have the backbone to identify opportunities for improvement. A strong candidate will think big and be comfortable working with Pharmacy Operations, Legal, Loss Prevention, Data Analysts, Product Leads, Engineers and other stakeholders to strategize on how to strengthen and scale our controlled substance processes. The ideal candidate needs to be detail and data-oriented in order to roll out new processes and effectively monitor successful implementation. You should be a self-motivated individual interested in the pharmacy business and able to work both independently and collaboratively. A successful candidate in this role will be a self-starter with exceptional attention to detail, must be able to partner and collaborate well with other stakeholders, and have strong written and communication skills.
Key job responsibilities
• Develop & Manage Controlled Substances (CS) Policies and Procedures especially related to CS prescription processing, checking, billing and dispensing
• Partner with stakeholders to enhance and implement effective CS processes which will enable the business to safely and compliantly dispense all CS, including Schedule II prescriptions.
• Partner with Legal, Loss Prevention and Pharmacy Operations on suspected Controlled Substance loss investigations
• Continually raise the bar and drive teams to deliver high quality services and products for the CS compliance foundation to be able to scale compliantly to dispense Schedule II-V controlled substances
• Identify and develop proactive and reactive metrics to measure and report on the effectiveness of the controlled substance compliance program
• Continuous oversight by auditing and monitoring of the controlled substance processes for effectiveness and adherence to requirements
• Monitor and audit the controlled substance pharmacist corresponding responsibility for good faith dispensing and comprehensive pharmacist clinical review processes
• Partner with loss prevention to identify and investigate variances
• Internally report on CS metrics
• Collaborate with AP and AHS learning and development team to develop and maintain a module based annual trainings for pharmacist on their corresponding responsibilities for controlled substances dispensing

• Partner with stakeholder teams including Pharmacy Operations, Loss Prevention, Legal, Data Analysts, Product Leads, Engineers and others.
• Develop, communicate, and roll-out strategic initiatives to support controlled substance oversight
• Monitor controlled substance processes for effectiveness and adherence to requirements
• Maintain policies, procedures, reporting, and other documentation related to controlled substances
• Monitor and audit the controlled substance pharmacist corresponding responsibility for good faith dispensing and comprehensive pharmacist clinical review processes
• Partner with loss prevention to identify and investigate variances
• Internally report on controlled substance metrics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Pharmacy degree (Doctorate or Bachelors) from an accredited school of pharmacy with 5 years healthcare compliance or pharmacy operations experience. Knowledge of pharmacy regulations and laws. Business proficiency in speaking and writing. Aptitude for building strong working relationships. Proven organization skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication. Attention to detail and thorough documentation practices. Willingness to travel up to 20%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Deep understanding of regulations governing the pharmacy industry, especially Controlled Substances. Experience with data analytics and data-based decision-making.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
