Amazon is Hiring a Software Development Manager, Aurora, Control Plane Near Seattle, WA

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for experienced, passionate and curious engineering leaders to innovate with us on behalf of our customers. In this role, you will lead teams that design and implement systems that orchestrate thousands of databases. Your team will build a foundational platform consisting of web service APIs and workflows which make Aurora Serverless highly available, scalable, reliable and fast. You will participate in product direction and road-map planning, project execution scheduling and hiring engineers.
This is a unique and rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor within a fast-growing AWS service and have an impact on the future shape of the cutting-edge database technology, and of the cloud in general. Your decisions will directly affect Aurora’s large customer base. We count on your deep technical and leadership expertise, good judgement, eagerness to learn and ability to collaborate across teams. Aurora Heat and Placement Control plane team is a core team that sits in middle of how we orchestrate heat and placement. We are looking to innovate on behalf of our customers and bring them the best experience possible while delivering high performance and durability. This is a huge impact role to redefine how we predict customer's(Database developer's) ever changing needs and create learning mechanism that would feed into our heat and placement algorithms. You would help lead and solve for lowering costs for customer and help bring in great stability and durability of our services.

Key job responsibilities
You will lead a 2 Pizza team and will have opportunity to impact one of the critical services within Aurora Control plane team. You will directly contribute to the vision and product roadmap. You provide direction, help determine right tradeoffs, influence cross teams. You actively participate in hiring to onboard both good engineers and leaders to the organization. You will have opportunity to work with very bright and smart team members and a great opportunity to learn from each other.
About the team
Aurora is one of the fastest growing teams within AWS. Heat and placement team which is part of the control plane team in Aurora orchestrates how heat is managed. You would have an opportunity to work with one of the smartest minds in the industry and help innovate on behalf of the customers.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Seattle, WA, USA

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
